“Someday” is not a day in the week – in fact Monday to Sunday are… and what an opportunity we have to use them! Exercise, fitness and working out can be overwhelming if you have been out of action for a while or just not feeling the mojo.

Here are my 3 easy steps to get you back in the habit of putting fitness first – without turning your life upside down:

1. Get Outside! Really: lace up those shoes and make a promise to yourself that you will get out the door and start walking for 15 minutes without turning back. That’s all it takes to get started. Don’t think about an hour of strenuous activity or what you ‘dont’ have time for’.

Commonly the biggest hurdle is just getting started and making excuses about not having enough time to do a big workout – or thinking that fitness is about things you don’t like doing.

Instead focus on the “get out the door” philosophy. If you just make that your mission you’ll never look back.

2. Change your mindset  – you need to truly believe that fitness is important. If you are having fun browsing Pinterst, Instagram and Facebook for all the “fitspo” images – thinking “wow I wish I could do that”, “look like that” or “be that”. Stop and ask yourself  –  do you  BELIEVE you can be fit healthy and happy?

All the positive affirmations in the world are not going to help, unless you work on your self belief and authentically want to be the best version of yourself. You can change negative self-image with time, habit and most importantly actions that signal to your brain and body that you actually are committed to feeling great. Talking and thinking about it are a start –  actually doing it creates change.

Active living will help create a cognitive change, a physical change and in turn a positive deep self belief.

How do you start to create that change?  Set ONE goal as your action – stick to it. Use point 1 above as a start. Get up, get out the door every day for 7 days in a row. That’s my challenge to you…let me know how you get on.

Do What You Love 3. Do what you love: Exercise, healthy food and fitness should be FUN. Don’t think of it as working out or “I have to” but rather think about activities that you would say “I WANT TO”.

There are so many active elements in our lives hopefully you can find one or two that make you feel fantastic as you do them:

Running, Walking, Cycle, Swim, Group Classes at the Gym, Ballet, Barre, Pilates, Outdoor Fitness, Bootcamp, Football, Volleyball, Yoga, Skipping, skiing, mountain biking, surfing, kite surfing, stand up paddle, down wind paddle races, tennis, golf, trail running – the list is ENDLESS!

Worried about the fact you haven’t exercised for a while or feel uncoordinated? I can guarantee you that everyone around you out there exercising will be focused on their own goals  ->  so head out and enjoy your active living without fear of what you may look like or what level you are at.

Even the pro’s had to start somewhere. If someone around you is judgemental about your exercise and fresh air living,  that says more about them than you. Stick to your guns. Don’t change what you love to suit other people. They have their own journey to fulfil.

There are wonderful trainers, coaches, groups and classes out there that become an extended family – a place to socialise and get fit at the same time. One of my favs at the moment is the crew from BSKT yoga and Pilates in the Gold Coast. (Not excluding our own incredible Life’s a Gym head trainer and nutritionist of course :))  Their commitment to wellness, involving all levels and open nature make it a fun and inspirational place to workout, learn and enjoy the process. After all: fitness should be fun!
